Just wanted to let all our members know that so far we've got a 7 skiers joining me in Aspen with John Clendenin on Jan 13 and 14th for a two day bump and all mountain clinic.

Very excited that 3 of our RS members, Jim, Lynn and Brendan will part of our group.

Just wanted to let any others that may be interested....email me and I'l fill you in on the details.

SKiing in Aspen is going to be great fun, lots of laugh, great meals  and outstanding skiing!

It will be a memorable trip with awesome new ski skills to add to your skill quiver!

Best,

Gary

G,

I found this bit of new video of John site, and, showing a few of his concepts. My understanding is that he's producing a full DVD and this is a piece of it.

http://skidoctors.com/DVD-update.html

My very limited understanding is that in the finishing phase of a turn, the skier's weight goes to the little pad on your foot behind the small toes. Next, a slight tipping the skies to a flat position enables the skies to drift or cascade through the next turn. So the skiing is done in a relatively stacked, quiet, centered body position with the feet being very active in initiating the turn.

The DVD is very good quality and does a good job of explaining some JC basics. In another post, I stated my view that JC's style of skiing is low edge angle skiing, and, the video is an example of what I mean by low edge. It certainly appears to be a good method of learning bump skiing. God, I'd love to ski on that quality of snow!

Any thoughts from the video you want to share?

Mike

Gary:

I have an awesome idea.  Does John provide a free DVD with a camp registration?
Something to acquaint new students with his methods so that they get more out of camp, something for them to take home so that they can continue progressing?

I'm assuming that the DVD is something that he's planning on including with book sales (similar to what other "ski groups" do), so why not do the same with a camp enrollment?

Hey Jim....because of the great rate we got...I'm pretty sure the DVD will NOT be included....I know he wants to get all together the night before dinner and talk about the DVD and maybe even watch it if there's a place we can do that...It should be ready by then. If it's ready before then, I'll post that info hear on RS.

Mike...what you're seeing in the DVD trailer is the basic entry level of skiing bumps and broken snow. You would see more edge angle at higher speeds on steeper pitched terrain but with the same concepts of little toe edge of the uphill ski releasing top third of the turn and re engaging bottom third of turn. Here the primary principas apply: Drift, touch, tip, center....COMMIT!...!

I've seen the preliminary DVD and it's so easy to follow the process....it's very clear to understand especially if one has purchased the On line Clendenin Ski Method manual.
Your description however is very accurate....the pole touch is the cuing factor. The method is quite easy on the body and wonderful for speed management no matter what the pitch or bump size. The DVD in it's final format will go into more detail about turn shape, timming, relase, etc.

I think anyone that is intent on improving their all mountain skiing ability should experiece time with John or at the very least, his manual and DVD.

Best,
G

My friends in Sales call this a "marketing opportunity".

G, we've got some work to do in JH! Let's get ready to BUMP!

Could not even look at them last year, but, I'm feelin' the need.

John's book, which is among the shortest and most straight forward of ski 'self-help' literature, is the best and most immediately useful guide I've used.  I'm really looking forward to the DVD...how long is it??  I get the impression it's a shorter supplement to the book (which I already own)...I hope it's pretty meaty, if for no other reason, I just like watching fluid bump skiing.

If there is still space available, I'd be interested in the Clendinnen camp, it'd be a long shot for me to pull it off, but still, I'd like to hear the details.

Liam..just today I received an email from another RS memeber about joining us.

Email me at gary.cassara@ushcp.com

I can fill you in on more details.

Right now the clinic is Jan 13 and 14th to be held at Apsen Ajax...so far there are 7 of us and I think one more will be on board very soon.

My wife and I will arrive on the 11th...ski with friends on the 12th, clinic on the 13 and 14th and ski with friends on the 15 and 16th. Ron, Jim, Lyn and Brendan all RS will be there too along with some very good friends from Chicago.

It's going to be an outstanding trip, great skiing, some meals together, and lots of laughs for sure....

Email me and I can send some more specific info......

Othewise, having Johns CSM manual, you can see how practical Johns methods are and they are some of the easiest to apply. I have seen the DVD in it's draft form and it is excellent. It breaks down the primary tools used in CSM and the visuals are outsanding and easy to relate to.

Hope you can join us...email me if you're interestd. Best, Gary

Lynn,
Gary as usual is on it like a duck on a June bug

Gloria chickened out.  She had a weird experience at HH camp, I think largely due to the fact that she had someone in her group that really couldn't ski at all prior to camp (which is weird at a Blue camp)  So they couldn't decide who to teach to in the group.  I also think that she is a more upright skier by nature and she tends to rotate (Mr Bill says, "Oh noooooooo!")  I think that the Clendenin camp would work better for her.

We will just have to boost up her confidence and get her in one at another time, but thanks for asking.

Hey Gang, I spoke with John the other day and they are just about finished with his DVD. I've seen the 2nd version of it and a wee bit more revamping and it's ready to go....and it's a doozy!

Very easy to follow, supportive, and excellent camera work.

Perry, have Gloria take a peak at the video....she just might change her mind about the camp.

Looking forward to being with all this Jan!

Best,
Gary

Gary:

What skis would you recommend for use during John's clinic?   Supershape Magnum's or Watea 84's.

Gary, while you are at it
RX-8 170cm or
SS Magnum 177cm

The site says bring "shorter" ski.  If gloria doesn't come I can bring both.
