Steamboat Report- December 24th!
« on: December 25, 2009, 11:15:39 am »
Hey folks, here's a link to my TR from skiing the boat yesterday. I can't remember skiing in much deeper untracked snow!

Ron,

Thanks for sharing. Beautiful stuff. I'm in Steamboat lust. As it's raining hard in Philly, that skiing seems light years away right now.

Come on JH!!

Perry, yes the Nomad SFT's for sure. That is really a fantastic ski. No tip dive, nice flex, very turnable in the trees. I would still like a 10/20 or close to that. It just helps out in really piled up irrelgular terrain and helps if there is some exposed or Ski snakes. ?As you can see, even with 111 underfoot, in ight powder, you are stilll really down in the powder so it helps to have that little extra float for trees and such. ?I actaully was traversing a line and it gave out under me, I sunk in about 4' and slid in to a little funnel. It took aobut 15 minutes to get out. Ira was below me about 30 yards so I was OK but when your skis get trapped under you in quick sand, its tiring digging out! We were dropping in from cat tracks into trees and hitting mid-thigh shots, not unusual to ski 1000 ft of untracked that day

Ron - BTW - it sounds like you have recovered nicely from the injury you had 2 years ago. Good on ya!! Skiing all that powder / 1000 ft untouched lines / and digging out of wells -- I hope your legs aren't sore  ;D  And yes, I wish I had very sore legs right now from such an ordeal >:D ( jealousy rains down )  ;D But I am smiling and happy for your good fortune.

Gary has me researching powder skis as I ponder the snowcat option.  I want to rent something that day if I go.

Perry, I skied 7 days straight, took a day off, then snowshoed up the mountain, and then skied 2 more days including the last powder day... My legs aren't sore but very tired for sure. I keep stretching them out as they want to tighten up on me for sure. I am happy to not be skiing this week!!!!
Demo a pair. depending on the conditions and your comfort level. I can offer some suggestions. Are you comfortable skiing black runs in powder? Bumps, broken crud? What's your weight and height?
