Spring Revival of Ski Season!!
« on: March 29, 2010, 09:05:44 am »
I t sounds like many here have put their skis away and are now focusing on cycling. I can't comment on the weather on the east coast (I don't live there or ski there) but I can tell you that winter is making a comeback out west. Tahoe is now getting pounded for what will be a few feet. As well the rockies are about to get pounded with a few feet as well. My home area in MT is poised to get 18-24 inches starting tonight. I am headed back on Thursday for what may be my last 4 days in MT this year, but it should be some excellent skiing.

April is always a very good month at higher elevations in the rockies.

So for those contemplating the end of their season, I recommend that you hop on a discounted airfare ticket and head West for some really fine April skiing. If you don't "you will only be a year older when you do!!"

Having said that I will say that the reason April skiing is so good (especially when it dumps) is because so many people have mentally given up on the season and there is no one on the mountains even with 2 feet of fresh. Their loss is our gain!!

Hoping you all get some more in this year.

Jim and I were talking about a very remote possibility of a weekend trip to Colorado if all the signs in the universe aligned properly.....
A good amount of recent snow, deeply discounted flight and rental car. There are plenty of cheap lodging choices available, so that is a given.

Both Jim and I had the most ever days on the snow this year.
I am not unhappy with mine, but more would be nice.

JB,I remember you stating you can ride year round in Calif. So, unlike us Easterners, you don't have to divide your season into the bike/golf season and the winter sports. VERY NICE!!

PS Your videos on the PMTS Forum were pretty amazing. The difference between day 1 and the following days were inspiring.

Yeah working with Harald is just amazing for one's skiing!!

Yes, on the biking front we do have the luxury in the bay area in that we can cycle all winter long. Instead of starting from scratch I am generally just looking to ramp up the hours and mileage to get back into race shape. But not quite yet!! There is still some great skiing to be had!!

Hopefully you will both make it to Colorado. If you focus on Loveland and A-Basin the skiing in April is always good due to their very high base altitude (10K feet). Should be very good. The forecast is for a very unsettled April for both Tahoe and the rockies which should mean quite a bit of snow.
