Steamboat 2011
« on: October 01, 2010, 11:20:35 am »
Just wanted to note that I'll be in Steamboat Feb 6-12th for some skiing with my daughter. AND I just heard from Perry that he and his wife will be up there the same week. Looking forward to skiing with them.....Perry loves to let the boards run!? Joe and his wife also might stop in for a day of skiing....fun group for sure.

I'm sensing a powder week coming.? ;D

Just wanted to invite any and all...if you're in that neck of the woods and want to make some turns, let us know.

Best,
Gary

yea, no kidding!! The website says "cold".  The English language has better descriptors than "cold".  How about freezing, frostbite freddie's in town and he's a frick'in crazy cold hearted dude, Mr Freeze says, "I'll freeze your nuts off" (funny if you imagine Arnold saying it)

But on the good side, my lost Spyder hat has been found.

we skied the last 2 days in about -15 to -10, both days were sunny.  No real wind yesterday and it was just fine. A base layer, mid and 60 gram insulation layer with the a shell. it was just fine, Actually got some sun burn on my nose.  Its -34 again this AM but its 7 above at the tops. Should be another great day.  THe mountain is skiing well and right now (meaning subject to change) there's a storm coming in on Sunday.

Love Steamboat, this'll be the first year in 6 that I will not make it out there. No Skijam, plus all my skiing friends are either laid off or the wives won't let go anymore. :'(

Brief report,
Had 3 feet of snow the first 3 days.  2 with light snow and the last was heavy snow.  The last 3 days mostly groomers and a little tree skiing.

We have had a blast.  Gloria made a significant jump in her skiing thanks to Gary's helpful coaching.  She is a long way towards completely loosing her stem.  Now a completely different skier.  Lots of fun to watch the progression and she is a very quick learner.

We had a great day on Sunday skiing in and out of trees off of Sunshine and just floating through the nice light Colorado snow.  The Koa 84 has been an awesome ski for Gloria and I have really enjoyed the Watea 98.

I blew up a couple of times in the powder on Tuesday skiing with Gary.  He can provide details later.  It has been a great trip spent with great people.  It has been fun to meet Gary's friend Ed, from Chicago.  More details to follow.  The hot tub beckons.

Perry,

That's great news!? Please pass my congratulations on to Gloria.?

It's good to hear you enjoy your new Watea 98's.? ?And what perfect conditions to break them in -- I admit to being seriously jealous.

Steamboat this past week was a real treat. From dumps of snow Monday and Tuesday to sunshine and talcom powder groomers mid week....skied it all with great friends.

Perry, Gloria, Ed and I opened and closed the mountain down on 2 of those days and one of those, it was negative 13F most of the day...but the sun worked it's magic.

Perry came out with just his Watea 98's and showed his ability to carve, float, bump throughout the week. It's been a year or better since we've skied together and his technique is solid. He also likes challenging himself as we dove into some tree glades. Gloria went from making "J" turns to smooth carves in 3 days...she felt so good about her skiing as we all did.

Great skiing, great meals hosted by Perry and Gloria with Perry's specialty chili...for sure an award winner.

WOW...is all I can say....I'm sitting in the condo packing up and really don't want to leave. Yup...I know many of you get that for sure.

Looking forward to more adventures this season...hope you all are doing the same.
Best, g

Great conditions, great company, great food. ;D
Congratulations on having such a successful trip!

Glad to hear about Gloria's happy improvement! Always nice to come away feeling more accomplished
than one started out.

And nice to hear the good reviews on the KOA and Watea.
It's a good thing when you buy a new ski (without the ability to demo) and it ends
up being the right choice.

Thanks Lynn and right on all counts.

Gloria really loves that ski and she so found how really versatile it really is.

Hope you too are enjoying your skiing adventures.
