Loveland Opened Today!!
« on: October 24, 2010, 04:37:01 pm »
Loveland opened today and they are also in the midst of getting 12-18 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow. Montana is also getting a good sized dump as well. Phil and SH are getting their first view of the early Tahoe season which can be very frustrating. The bay area is in the midst of getting 2-3" of rain. Tahoe will get 3-5" of rain and only some wet snow at the very highest elevations. The last 4 seasons have been touch and go up until Christmas or a week before, with very little to ski up until that point. They just don't make a lot of snow in Tahoe and at Squaw becaue no one goes there to ski groomers. Maybe Phil and SH can be good luck charms for this season in Tahoe.  I remember one 5-6 years ago when they got 2-3 feet in October and stayed open from that point on. BTW, no matter how bleak things look early, Tahoe always gets huge snow and before you know it you will be skiing deeper pow than you have ever experienced before, asking yourself why it took you so long to move there!!

The shots from Loveland they showed on the Raider/Broncos game looked pretty sweet. With more snow on it's way, we are now officially off to a nice start.

Those Chariots are just waiting for me now!!

Nice stuff....I looked at the web cams for Snowbasin, Alta and Park City and the white stuff is coming down there too.

Off to a good start?  We certainly hope so!

Let it snow let it snow let it snow!

Phil, you let us know if you ski Boreal. If so we know you are beyond an addict!!

For those that don't know Boreal, it's a tiny little spot right on US 80 with about 400 feet of vert. And yes they are always the first to open because they are the only place in Tahoe that spends the money to make snow. For addicts only!!

Ok Phil...I'll bite...

What new boots......a pair Carbon Fiber Dodge perhaps...

Moving away from Dalbello to what dare I ask?

Alice just got fit and dialed in for her first correct fitting "adult" boots...out went the Tecnica JR Race boots and in came the Dalbello Storm....oh so adjustable...She loves the stance and the fit....and looking forward to turning them loose on the snow.

Dodges are wayyyy out of my budget and NO, NOOO pro deals. I will get in them to try since we will have a run of demos but it will not be Phil's daily driver. Yes, there is a good chance it will not be a Dalbello.

Not sure the Dodge boot is a daily driver for anyone other than a racer. Jim Schaffner made it clear that there is virtually no give and no flex whatsoever in these boots. Sounds great on hard snow but beyond challenging in crud and bumps.

That is actually good to hear.
After just getting new boots, one HATES to hear the next, best thing is now available.
Just stratospherically expensive!

Though I am sure the futue will bring boots that are lighter than the current models for us mere mortals.

Phil,
Let us know what they feel like when you demo!

I do not understand the fascination with how light these boots are with race skis being as heavy as they are.

I am sure Dodge will have to expand into HP recreational boots to defer costs and be profitable.

The other word I keep hearing on the Dodge boots is that that they are not comfortable unless you have a really thin, low volume foot. They are the rage on the WC right now with more guys testing them every week. To win a race those guys are willing to jam their foot into something that is way too small. With no fame, glory or money attached to it, I doubt that anyone will want to ski in pain all day. There appears to be some early recreational adopters on the PMTS forum who are having Harald fit them for the new Dodge boot. I question this move. If you are not already skiing in a 150 flex boot, the move to the Dodge which is essentially a 200 flex boot (no flex) could be a difficult one.

Rest assured you made the right choice with your new boots!!

I may get a chance to ski a run or two on them when I am Colorado 11/6-8. If so I will post my thoughts. I should be able to at least try them on and I can give some comments about that even if I don't get them on snow. If I some how come home with a pair you will know in advance that all of my above comments were wrong :) :) :)
