Revelstoke

Has anyone on this forum skied at Revelstoke? I may have the opportunity to ski there Jan. '12 and am curious about the mountain and where to stay. Even rumors would be appreciated. :D

meput,

Can't help with Revelstoke, but, where are you located in the east?

Jim:  Following is from a friend in Canada.

Re. Revelstoke, I have never skied there, but hear that it is an amazing place.  Very challenging, huge vertical, heaps of snow, lots of off-piste terrain, steep.....definitel y an expert skiers mountain.  Kind of hard to get to, apparently, but worth the flight and drive.
Here is an article from Ski Canada from a couple of years ago: http://www.skicanadamag.com/Images/Uploads/2008/09WIN_Revelstoke.pdf
Might be a bit outdated, as apparently they have done a lot to improve the grooming and lift service there.  They are investing a lot of money there, and it is becoming a serious resort and big draw for expert skiers, somewhat like Jackson Hole, I would guess...... but with bigger mountains ;-)

There is a video clip at Ski Television:  http://tv.snowsportsculture.com/
Click on the "Destinations" tab, and go to page 3 for Revelstoke.
Hope you find something useful.
Have a great President's Day holiday.
Hi to Lyn! And greetings from Terryl to you both.

Heading in that general direction in 20 days...

Panorama, Sunshine and Lake Louise....first time....it's been pow so far everywhere I've skied...

Hoping that holds true with Canada's Mother Nature!

It's all good eh?

Let us know how Revelstoke is...enjoy....G

Jim, Thanks for the info from your friend regarding Revelstoke. Looks interesting.

Mike, I live in Maine and ski mostly at Sugarloaf. Occasionally will venture out of Maine. Met Jim & Lynn with the Northeast PMTS roundup, that Todd also attended, at Mad River Glen & Sugarbush. Took a day trip to Waterville Valley yesterday to get some boot work by Glen Scannell. WV was hard & fast. Two days ago Sugarloaf was hard & fast. If you like water injected race trails, that's what we currently have in the east.

I had the experience of skiing Revelstoke 2 years ago.  I am an expert skier, 67 years old and I have skied 42 resorts in Western states and B.C.  Revelstoke may be my least favorite resort.  It is VERY steep with very long runs interupted with crossing roads.  Where these roads cross the young hot skiers hit them at high speed and launch air.  Again, I am an expert skier but I was not comfortable there and yes my age may have something to do with this feeling.

Crayheater, thank you for your thoughts. I agree that "hot young skiers hit them at high speed and launch air" are a problem, but the twin tippers, boarders (knuckle draggers), and straight liners exist at all ski areas these days. I appreciate that Revelstoke has a lay out with the cross roads that exacerbate the problem.

I do not consider myself to be "an expert" but I consider myself to be a strong skier for my age (60). I will let Jim, Lynn or Todd weigh in on my skiing as they have all skied with me. It is rare that I shy away from a trail unless it is bumpy (skiing on one artificial knee) - bring on the new snow (we don't have powder in the east :'(), packed pow, groomed, or eastern boilerplate.

Thank you for sounding in on Revelstoke,
Jim

meput,
For some reason, I thought you lived in North Jersey, and much closer to where I live. Never been to the 'loaf but it's on my  bucket list. For sure, will pm when it happens. In the meantime, keep doing the drills my PMTS brother! ;D

Jim has some VERY nice PMTS moves on skis.

He is has truly been able to take what he has read and put it to practice in his skiing.
And while Jim shy's away from bumps because of his knee, when "required" (as in oops, this trail is only bumps from here on in!)
he can handle them WAY better than the Northeast group could. Exception of Glen, of course.

Hijack over. ;D

Except that I am talking about Meput, who's real first name is Jim. ;D

Uh, he's very nice, but I don't think of him in that way.

And Lynn wasn't linking "nice moves" with me???? Hmmmm.? There's a lot of static in this connection.?

Jim PUTnam from Maine= ME, and he is a much nicer skier than Jim Ratliff of Kansas.? But I am not KSRAT!

Whoa, If I was smart, I should stay out of this discussion that has taken an unusual change of direction from Revelstoke. That said, I never said I was smart ;) . Lynn said nice things about my skiing that I really don't deserve. Thank you Lynn.

Jim (ksrat) & I (meput) do share the same first name, but I am sure Lynn finds ksrat's moves much more enjoyable ( :-[) than watching my ski moves ( :D).

Jim (Ratliff) please don't ban me. I apologize for using ksrat (where you stated that is not who you are), but it really does have a nice ring to it  >:D >:D.
