Happy 4th of July
« on: July 01, 2011, 10:11:50 am »
Just wanted to wish everyone a safe and exercise filled July 4th weekend.  That can include bike riding, golfing, skiing?, table tennis (or simple tennis), or just brew tipping.

Lynn and I are off to RI to spend the weekend with my son.  He's with US AID and is headed to Afghanistan later in the month (for 2 years).  Hopefully a little bit of biking, a little bit of sailing, a little bit of table tennis (my son and I are pretty good, Lynn is surprisingly good as well).  It's always surprising to find someone who can really hit the ball rather than playing pitty pat style.

Thanks to all for continuing to chat and expand my bike knowledge during the "off-ski" season.

And isn't it wonderful to have forum pages popping up so quickly.  MUCH less network latency.

Back at ya Jim! Happy Four of July to all my American friends!  Hope you all have a great long weekend.

We celebrated our couintry's birthday today, and it was a good one -- yes Jim, it included some exercise.  30 km ride this morning with Terryl, in fabulous summer weather -- 20 km on rail trail, then a terrific detour into Albion Hills for some proper trails.  Terryl had jets on today -- yes Lynn, I was beaten by a girl  :o   No way I could keep up to her...at least on the rail trail....in the woods the 29er is in its element  8)  and I could at least keep up to her.

Then I spent the afternoon tuning up all four of the family's mtn. bikes under a shade tree, in preparation for a long ride tomorrow with the kids on some single track a few hours north of here near my brother's place.  Then tonight it was exercising the toasting arm at the annual neighbourhood Canada Day street party and fireworks.  Great fun! We just have the best neighbours.

Jim & Lynn -- enjoy Rhode Island.  And best wishes to your son on his coming work in Afghanistan.  I have nothing but the greatest respect.  I'm sure it will be an incredible experience for him.

Hope your weekend is a good one.... Enjoy, and Cheers!

Svend :

Sorry,  I use Swype for entering text on my Android phone. You just slide your fingers over the letters in the word you why. It works really quickly, but sometimes the phone doesn't pick the same word the operator had in mind.

Meant to ask how the knees were?

I kinda figured there was an anatomical reference in there somewhere.   :o   Just wasn't sure which bits were being referred to.....

But thank you, the knees are great.  Since I made the changes to seat / cleats / bars, the pain virtually disappeared overnight.  And I have not slacked off on the amount of riding -- on the contrary, it has increased, against the better advice of those here on the forum.  Just having too much fun to not get out there!  The bike is performing great, BTW, since the aforementioned tweaks and the tune-up this weekend.  Had it out on some single track yesterday, and it was a gem.  Love my ride!

As an aside, I am totally impressed by the tires on my bike -- Bontrager Jones ACX -- grip on roots, rocks, fallen branches, steep angled side-slopes, was amazing.  Ran them at 30psi.....great performance.  But perhaps I should move these comments over to our mtn. bike thread....

Hope you're having a great long weekend.
