home to roost!
« on: October 19, 2011, 12:29:01 pm »
My Kastle MX78's arrived home uncerimoniously.... looking a bit dishoveled on the topskin but otherwise quite rid of the Freddie Krugar scars they so bore.

"Trust no one" when it comes to anyone putting their tools to my skis. I took them to the basement to scrutinize the mechanical surgery under more discerning light.

First the base structure looked like a new Kastle ski....factory grind...just as they said. I took a bar to the base to make sure they were flat and indeed, spacing was equal across from tip to tail. I then sprayed with my magic pre-file potion, hit the edges with light file in guides, running them tip to tail  and I was flabergasted. They were spot on....even factory tunes have had high's and low's...but I was ver pleased to see they were perfect. I then ran the ceramic stone down those new edges and was satisfied that so far....all is good.

To date I've done 3 hot scrape's, a base coldest weather wax, scraped and brushed followed by 2 more waxings of the next warmer wax...figure by the time I'm done I'll have no less the at least 5 coats.

Other than a few superfical scratches the bases look great. Any hardened spots on the steel edges have been removed. The top skins have been cleaned and with a few more coats of wax and brushings, it's go time. With what I'm seeing so far, guessing all will be well when they first turn in the snow.

Best, G

Todd,

You are a cruel, cold man to ever consider that Gary would let a rock kiss his MX78's. :-[   BTW, I would not want to be same rock as G would return with dynamite to get even.

Gary, all who post here are glad to see your growth in personal development via permitting an "outside" to even touch the bases of your skis. And did you saw the tops are "yellow"> :o Oh, sorry - different thread. Do you even own a rock ski?

And since Todd brought it up, fess up all.....what is your early season rock ski.

My Blizzard Sl's are reserved for such days. Excellent to practice tipping while avoiding rocks.

Ah indeed Todd....I have ventured into areas that look like pow and I'm thinking...Geesh..I wonder why no one has gone in there...happened at Lake Louise last year...certainly one of the rewards my skis took out of that run.

Hey but that happens when we're hunting and searching for the goods...

Still, they are my tools, and substituting those with some "false tools" would be sacreligious. (I worship no false skis)

Now I don't go out looking for rocks but even skiing off piste in bounds...they abound aplenty! I found at Big sky the local shale rock is alive and the little suckers ambush you all over the mountain...pesky little bast..ds!

Thank you Mike..yes I have grown up but only by necessity...having someone put their mitts on my bottoms and edges approaches emotional critical mass.. :o!

Still do I need a rock ski?....nah....just another good season on my Kastles and then they may need to be retired....or HOW many times can skis be base ground??? :D

Give us this pow this daily pow
and for go our crashes
let us not forgive those who cut in the tram line
and lead us INTO temptation
but deliver us to top of hidden peak, AMEN!!

Okay Bush
You are in VERY STRONG contention for "quote of the month"!!!!
This is excellent.
Now, your composition or "borrowed"?

This thread is a lot more fun than a three-pager on where to mount a ski no one will actually buy.

Good stuff, bush but I like the straight forward, simplicity of Jim's 'Thou shall worship no false prophets... :D

Liam: tyvm.  I did like the double meaning of Prophets.

Gary: why are you praying for HAIL??
Shouldn't it be "Powder, Mary? full of grace, ..... "
