On Sunday we headed to Holiday Valley (an Anniverary getaway) with warm air all around us. With the mountain partailly open, we were treated to buttery smooth runs with few crowds and a few raindrops. Skiing the MX78's, the snow was a blast to carve, brush, and drift in....After about 2 hours, the buttery stuff turned to mush and still the skis performed beautifully...but my mind keep toying with the idea of getting the DPS112's out of the Mariner...yeah...ta g team skiing!
Just as that thought was taking hold...the skies turned black...and we made one last run before a torrential downpour let loose. Skiing was done for the day....3 hours of spring snow was a blast.
That night, a storm was brewing......at bed time not much had fallen but when I checked at 3:30am, there was 3 inches on the balcony railing and 8" by the time we headed to Holimont. Temps in the 20's and it was still snowing. We were pumped.
The 78's would have been fine but what the heck...I brought them....so out came the DPS. The mountain ski shop had 84 underfoot for their widest skis...so my DPS raised a few eyebrows from the race coaches and ski patrol gang. Undetered I went and just gobbled oddles of pow on the limited terrain for a solid hour of pure glory. After an hour, we had piles of snow and scraped off hardpack from the earlier days frozen rain. The DPS plowed over instead of through the piles due to the rocker tips and edges hooked up very nicely on the hardpack scraped off. We got 3 hours of skiing that day, no lift lines again and just had a great time. It truly amazes me when I put both the Kastle and DPS against the wall and just look at the difference in widths and length and think....how is it possible the get that kind of performance.
So for now...happiness abounds in my ski quivver mind....just want to find more pow to play in...fingers crossed for that in JH in 13 days....hope you guys are finding good snow too.
