Got Video?
« on: January 05, 2012, 05:27:38 pm »
The management of the Living Proof Enterprises regretfully announces that it's CEO, Mr. LP has been censured as inept to comment on ski technique. Mr. Proof was video-taped this morning making training runs on his home mountain showing gross up-movement extension to release, extremely low and side hand positions, and upper body rotation. He has proven beyond doubt that, while he may "talk the talk", he is inept at "skiing the ski".

Mr. Proof wishes to extend his apologies to all that he may have offended in discussions regarding their technique, or, what is proper technique.

His first penance is to stop being so arrogant about "flexing and extending" and is required to re-read that Chapter in Essentials and "do the drills". he has no clue about flexing to release!

 ;D ; :o;D

Too funny!

I am feeling the lack of an early season PMTS camp or lesson.
Not feeling the mojo.

I did not find my groove in december's trip.
And like you say, the video doesn't lie.
I'm almost afraid to see what this next weeks trip will show.

BTW Mr. LP; you are on moderator patrol this coming week!!
Jim and Lynn are goin' skiing.

But the more important question is -- Did the video fully show you having a good time?

LP, I also hope you had a good time at least while you were skiing (because for most looking at Video is not always fun). But this is the single best learning tool in existence. HH often says that perception is miles from reality when it comes to skiing and new movement patterns. Studetns think they are exagerating movements that they are barely doing correctly. Unless you have a trained eye watching you video is the only way to know for sure if you are making the movements you want to make corrrectly. Even better you can become your own coach, as you saw today what you thought you were doing you weren't.

I saw HH at the end of last season and had his and Max and Diana's eye on me. I did two days with Harald in Decenber and have skied another 15 days and it is now time to pull out the camera and do the video test. I will be back in MT on Friday with a friend who is going to shoot a good bit of Video. Max never goes more than a few weeks without having video shot of himself. I try to do the same. Again this is the single greatest instruction/learning tool that exists.

Don't be bummed. Get excited! You now know exactly what to work on and you will know when you are doing it right if you keep shooting video. Congrats!!

Am I having a good time.....you better believe. Part of the fun, for this twisted mind, is determining how to be better. Of interest this season, I am skiing with members of the Mack Truck Ski Racing Program (Anybody remember "built like a Mack Truck"? Same company only now owned by Volvo) They are serious about about improving, but, we have fun. My level of skiing is near the bottom rung of the ladder with that group.

Tomorrow is the world famous Elk Mtn. Demo Day and I leave in just a few hours. Spent a couple of hours with the books and DVD's. Of the Harb essentials, I've  always struggled most with tipping/extending and never did the needed work. It shows in my skiing. But what does work great is getting counteracted and pulling the free foot under the body.....just feel the skis being sucked into the snow.

Back to a item we have discussed, to day I was on my 88's for the first time this season. I love them, just go make some neat higher speed turns and be very stable. Yesterday, on the SS's, my skiing was much sharper. It's been close to 9 months off of skis, no miracles should be expected. But the learning tool are the SS's. Skiing remains a very short duration, highly choreographed dance where all the pieces from your feet to your head have to be right.

Lynn and Jim ....enjoy Utah. Here's to spending less mod time on the phone than your last trip. ::) And there is much less snow at Elk this year. Remember our Pow day there last year?

Video is great. I started using it very seriously in 2006 and haven't looked back. The first step to improving your skiing is recognizing what needs to improve.

That's why they call it MOVEMENT analysis and not SKILL analysis.
All-Mountain: A common descriptive term for boots or skis that are designed to perform equally poorly under a variety of conditions and over many different types of terrain.

I'm very lucky to ski with a serious semi-pro photog buddy most days out.  I don't think I would have ever achieved what I have so far without pics and video.

LP - don't you fret - I'll get you all fixed up out in Tahoe.  Well I'll at least give it a shot if you're game.

In another forum, Helluva called out many for not re-reading and reeducating themselves on the correct movements. I stand convicted and humbled.

Friday, I spent a fair amount of time doing the basic drills from flexing and extending chapter. Reading the material brought fresh ideas and awakened some long slumbering memories of how to flex and extend. It was also a demo day, so, I had two agenda's which is always a bad idea. (demo'ing is just so much fun) Some fleeting "Ah-Ha" moments occurred.

It was reminiscent of working with my golf pro

Hey Mike, any particular skis that you're looking to demo? Do tell....  Always eager to hear what others have skied and their impressions.

LP: And how was the skiing at lovely Elk mtn?
An unexpected storm added 6-9 inches in the big and little canyons, dusting in Park City resorts.

Still minimal coverage, but at lready felt a bit more like winter (at least for a day).
