HoliMont - I'm in!
« on: January 23, 2012, 06:03:00 am »
The Tennis Diva graciously approved my mini-vacation to join some Real Skiers at HoliMont next weekend. Driving up to Gary's on Fri., skiing with G and Alice on Sat. On Sun, Helluva and Svend will link up at HolliMont. 4 from Real Skiers at the same place and time. Will this number be matched later in the season anywhere else?

If Helluva has camera tucked into jacket,......I may be convicted of more PMTS sins.

I'm bringing the Sultan 94's for their first time on my feet, so, let's all do a little new snow dance. Shapes will be there too.

I'm feeling the excitement!

It could be close.
At the PMTS Northeast gathering the following weekend there will be Jim and Lynn and Todd and maybe Jim2 (Meput).  Potential tie, overtime may be required, and Sugar Bush is not far from Stowe.

Either Kathleen or I will be carrying the video camera as always. If you want nice still images, we can extract them from any video we take. It is HD, with a very high frame rate (I shoot in 720 with a high frame rate instead fo 1080 with a lower frame rate), so you can get some really nice still images out of the video.

Our snow at Holimont has been great. The snow making crew and grooming crew has done a fantastic job of providing us with a great snow surface despite mother nature's best efforts to ruin it. If the conditions next weekend are anything like we had this weekend and last weekend you are in for a real treat.

BTW - LP it will be great to ski with you again. What has it been - 2 or 3 seasons!?

I gave Gary my usual daily plan via email, but for anyone who hasn't gotten the message - I usually do a full tour of the mountain through the day. GS free skiing early when it is quiet and the snow is mooth, followed by SL free skiing until lunch [all Greer to Wild Turkey], and then some soft SL or all-mountain boards to finish off the day on some more mellow terrain [usually finish on Sunset]. Kathleen and I will also provide lunch in the usual Holimont fashion. Should be a blast!

Greg,
We last skied on a great sunny day in early March '10 at Greek. On the way into lunch, a woman saw us and something like "Wow, you are the guy doing all those great turns!" (She was watching you not me - for sure).

And, thanks for hooking us up. I'm pumped for HolliMount.

I would recommend throwing in a hard snow ski just in case. Snow showers are predicted, but with rain today and tomorrow, with the temps turning over to cold for the weekend the snow could be pretty hard. If it sets up at the right time as they groom on Friday night, Saturday is likely to ski more like injected snow than packed powder.

Have skis will travel is my motto!  ;D

It's a hearty group used to skiing hard snow....the gift is the soft stuff....but I'm guesing 14 thundering hoofs might turn things over a bit.

After a 5 hr drive through some great Pa and NY rain, I arrived at G's. Fast lunch then off to Bristol for a few hours skiing. Somewhat foggy, but, we found some good snow and did close to a dozen runs. Given all the rain, a great day of skiing!

G was making his new Kastle 84's rock.

Tomorrow, we get up and do it all over again.

When will this rain just go away?

Mike and I were down the road this am at 7...on mountain making turns in granular snow 8:10...within 90 min...we had granular pow 4-6 inches along the edges...chasing each other like two squirrels....had a blast.

Had a beautiful red ski in the mornig on the drive to Bristol...some sunshine on the mountain...a perfect day!

Tomorrow, out the door at 6:30 am to join another great group of fun loving skiers.

More to come.

The Weather Channel promises that HoliMout will be dumped on tonight and tomorrow. Skiing fresh pow tomorrow.....who would have thought. I can't believe I'm in western NY in late January and there is no snow on the ground. Off to bed early and let the legs recover. Skiing with G is a tough job, but, someone has to do it.

BTW, living at Chateau Gary and Alice is a good life! Maybe they will adopt me.

More to follow!

A big shout out to Helluva and his great friend Kathleen for hosting us at HoliMount. They catered a great lunch for the group, joined us for dinner and disappeared into a snowstorm to return to Buffalo.

Skiing with Helluva is a treat ( and checking out Kathleen is a treat of a different sort ). He just goes and turns sooo much better than the rest of us. Great day of skiing, some new snow and fine conditions.

Six inches of new snow fell overnight, so 5 powder desperodo's will seek fool's gold this morning. BTW, due to some family issues, Svend will not be able to join us. I will miss meeting him, and, I know he misses this trip.

And did I say 6 inches of new fell overnight! :P :P Will G's Yellow DPS's get taken out? Tune in later.

That's an understatement! Totally morose, I am.  Despondent.  One of the highlights of my ski season is the annual Ellicottville guys trip.  I was really looking forward to seeing G and his mates again, and meeting you, Mike, and Helluvaskier.  But, unfortunately I couldn't be there, so raise a glass and have a swig for me, boys.  See you next year, for sure.

Hey Mike, did you get first turns on the Sultans? You did bring them....didn't you....?
