Gee Lynn,

Everyone has been talking about their skis. What are you taking about being "tough enough for REAL WAXING!" ?   :o.   Of course my skis are tough enough for REAL WAXING!  :)

Max, do you have an alternate explanation for why my bases would go grey after a few days of skiing at home, but still be shiny and black after a week's skiing out west or wherever?

Lynn, you're absolutely correct!  I had a hard enough time when I first started putting the wax iron to my skis..  ;D

While I will never speak for Max, I don't think he has inferred that the greying we easterners get does not exist, and, that wax does no good for eliminating the greying. Our snow may not be the worst case, but, it still beats up the base near the edges via abrasion. IMHO, this abrasion is the best use of wax and I am in agreement that the glide effect of perfect wax has a very short half-life. Like about one or two runs.

Often, after a mornings skiing, I change the left and right skis for the afternoon. It's easy to see the wax has been removed on the inside edge, but, switching to the still waxed edge has never resulted in my thinking "WOW - what a difference in glide". I have thought that switching to the sharper edge is beneficial during icy conditions.

Tough enough?

Fischer Ski Babe,

I think Jim1 beat you hands down.  It's that active/passive distinction again.  Which is more macho?  Being hot waxed or conducting electricity?  Gives new meaning to "live circuit."

Now if you used "live current" to heat the wax, I'd have to admit your macho superiority.
