Psst... Max is still skiing!!!
« on: May 20, 2012, 10:03:43 pm »
Evidently skied some of the best corn of his life yesterday. I had pretty much forgotten about skiing until I sent him an email asking if Bachelor is still open. He responded later in the day because he was out skiing!!  This must be among the only places still open. In good years Squaw is open until late May but this was far from a good year. My experience is that it's usually not worth skiing past 11:00 am. Evidently Bachelor is a large bowl which allows you to follow the sun around all day and ski good corn just as its getting good. Sounds like fun.

Max,
Do you do anything special to bases or wax for late season slushy skiing? I've never found a good wax solution, but, I have considered getting one pair of skis with an very aggressive structure on the bottoms.

It's been 75+ days since I've done turns, and, many full moons will pass prior to getting on the boards. Beach music anyone?

Mike....carry a little tub of Zardoz in your pocket...apply a quick coat every 90 minutes..

Ideal for me in warm spring conditions...really works.

Beach music Mike...are you at the cottage?

Here's to ya Max still making turns...very nice!

An aggressive structure is key to fun spring skiing.

Max:  I know we are coming from slightly different viewpoints, but I have an excellent structure on my bases and have to disagree vehemently with your assertion above.
The primary key to fun spring skiing is

SNOW!!   :(

IMHRO (In My Humble Respectful Opinion) of course.

if his skiing corn snow then there is no need for any special wax. Corn snow is fast even in really warm air temps.

late season when the snowpack is isothermic its really hard to get sticky snow.

I think this post needs to be moderated, obviously disrespectful to those of us expecting a weekend of 90 degree temperatures.   :P
