Junior To Adult Transition
« on: February 15, 2007, 09:25:49 am »
My daughter is 11, 5' 5 1/2", 115 lbs. and in the ez expert/advanced category... skis mostly on groomed but eager to tackle everything... very comfortable on single blacks... likes to go fast.  We ski in the Pacific NW, so mixed snow including crud is part of life.  Two questions... when would you move her from a junior ski to an adult ski.... and how much length would be too long given that I'm trying to buy skis that will last her two or three years.  For example, 158 cm comes to her eyebrows.  Ski suggestions welcome too!

I have two daughters, 18 & 20 years old. I faces this problem several years ago.

A few questions;

What does she use now?
Will she grow into a 130 lbs or larger adult based on genetics or other factors?

My daughters added about 25 Lbs from age 11 to age 14, and have not grown much larger since. The safe answer is wait until she is older, however this may not be the best answer for her if she has already outgrown her gear and could use one of the better female adult skis.

Cheers,

Michael

She's on rentals, 150 cm Atomic junior skis without much shape.  She overpowers them, like their little sticks.  I think she'll add three or four more inches and another 20 to 25 lbs.  If I bought for right now I'd get 152's... I thnk she'll be ok with 158's... a little big this year but ok by next... looking at the Fischer Vision 73's and the Volkl Attiva S4's... and maybe the Nordica Olympia Speeds.
