I also just bought a pair of Magnums in a 170 that are replacing regualr SS's that had become rock skis. I am keeping them in California and they will be my everyday ski for Tahoe on non powder days.
Excellent choice and infinitely more versatile IMO than some of the other names you were bandying around.
Just to prove that you are a better shopper than I, what did you pay for the Magnums (if you don't mind)? I paid $399 for a pair that "was used only six days" that came with demo bindings. I wasn't thrilled with the condition when I got them, although most is base scratching and other cosmetic stuff. Edges are solid. I will most likely take my Free Flex 14's off of my rock SS's and switch them with the demo bindings. I didn't see a lot of magnums around for sale at good prices.
