snow at Steamboat and conditions
« on: November 14, 2007, 09:54:59 am »
Just started this to start a daily update blog for us

11/14- cold temps are permitting blowing on portions of the mountain. They received a dusting of natural last night and there are showers today. Looks like next few days will bring showers and slight accumulation. Nothing substantial predicted.

11/16- SB delays opening until 11/30. This should give them plenty of time to blow and build base. (We hope) For now, pray, pray, dance, dance, pray, no burnt offerings yet please......

A good weekend to all. Work out, eat less and get ready for Thanksgiiving.
Think snow, dream snow and make an offering to the appropriate deity who will supply the white stuff!

PS. Seems my favorite New England ski resort, Sugarbush, just got 10 inches.  That makes me very, very happy.

Nice job Ron on the pics post..very cool.

Ok gang.....we in the Italian community have a special dance ....a snow dance....it's callled the "Snowatella"...yes it sounds a lot like the Tarantella, a happy dance with anyone on the dance floor dance, BUT  ::) the Snowatellla is performed in the sanctity of your man cave (or woman cave) with your ski boots on, underwear on,(makes it more primitive) and goggles. Now the music choice of course is yours but the dance should include spinning, forward and back leg kicking, (one leg at a time please) and jumping up and spinning (180 deg).

All this should be preceded by a glass of wine or grape juice for those inclined. No sacrifices are required however placing ski magazine pictures of massive powder days all around you is critical. Additionally, tapping some of these pictures to your  skin enhances the ceremony 3 fold.

Doing the Snowatella 7 days prior to our actual arrival gets the attention of the snow gods....any earlier, they toss you off to the poser department and it rains cats and dogs. So.....unless you have your own ethnic ceremony, I hereby anoint you all "Snowatella Snow Dancers" so get out there (7 days prior to the bird) and shake, kick and spin your booty! ::)

We can make this happen!  ;D

Best,
Gary

Weather update:

11/20/07, 12 noon update. Now predicting as much as 5" for mountains tonight and 1 or 2 Wednesday. Another storm looks to be setting up for this weekend.

Note the picture of the day above. This is the new base area, comlpetely regarded with a ton of guns.

Snowblowing update: Blowing continues but with down-right frigid temps coming up later this week, no doubt the guns will be blazing. SB had a very wet fall and late summer so the water supply for blowing should be very good.

Folks, I think this is the start of a good recovery.

keen observation master cassara!  Yes, that's the new regraded base area. It's much better now without the double fall-line and will create a much better area for ski school.

That USA today report is pretty good

Check the web out, They are reporting as of this AM, 9 INCHES on top and it's still snowing. I spoke to folks there who report 4" at the base area. No wind and its just snowing steadilly.
