Head SuperShape Magnums binding change advice
« on: April 14, 2008, 08:22:28 am »
I recently bought a pair of Head SuperShape Magnum's (170cm length), thanks in part to Peter's identification of them as the "skill development ski of the year" and PatProf's adoring review.? ;)?
I was initially planning on just moving the bindings from my current Head i.SL Chips since both skis use the CP13 carve plate, because that was? cost effective, and I appreciate "cost effective"? ?;D

That was until 'midwif' emailed me yesterday to brag (justifiably, I might add) that she had just purchased 4 pair of Head Railflex bindings at $5 per pair.? That's right gentlemen, the lady ski maven and shopper extraordinaire purchased two pair of RF11's (retail $169 per pair) and two pair of RF10's (retail $129 per pair), a total of $600 worth of bindings for a mere $20 (plus sales tax, I assume).? WOW? ?:o

I really prefer the Railflex setup to the CP13 carve plate; I like the ease of moving the bindings around with the Railflex setup as well as the ease with which they can be adjusted for different boot sole lengths.? In fact, I have always been a bit jealous that Fischer used the Railflex on their RX8 carving ski while Head used the CP 13 (carve plate, 13mm of lift) on most of their mid-level carving skis.

I am seriously considering replacing the carve plate with a Railflex base, and then making midwif an offer she can't refuse? ::)? ::)? ;) for one pair of the RF11's bindings to go on the Railflex plate.? I am soliciting thoughts and opinions, be they informed or otherwise.? Should I remove the CP13 plate from the SuperShape Magnums and replace it with a Railflex plate??

Yes, unless you choose to keep the CP13 plate.

Gee Jim
Can't keep? ANYTHING to yourself!!!!? ?:o I emailed to OFFER you the RailFlex 11, not brag.
Now the person who gets a brand new Railflex ski binding at the RS3 Grab Bag is going to know I only paid $5 !!! :D
And for the cost of shipping, they are yours. You can buy me a beer at RS3 to make up the difference. ;D

Hey Lynn (aka Ms. Fashion):

I wanna be like Gary, if I get me a flourescent Orange helmet like his would a flourescent Green jacket tie the skis and the helmet together??

HAREM?? Hmmmm.? Like that word.? Quiver reminds me of bow and arrows, harem of lovely women.? Like the idea of thinking of my skis like lovely women.? Like it I do.? But now I need to dispose of some of the old stuff.

My "harem" of skis in oldest to newest order (and the progression in sidecuts).

K2 Axis X 188cm.? ?? ? ? ? ??107-70-97? ? ? ?(16.0 mm sidecut) (18m radius)
Head iC160 177cm.? ? ? ? ??112-64-95? ? ? ?(20.0 mm sidecut) (14.5m Radius)
Head i.SL Chip 165cm? ? ? ?119-64-102? ? ?(23.5 mm sidecut) (11m radius)
Head iM78 177cm.? ? ? ? ? ? 124-78-110? ?? (19.5 mm sidecut) (14.6m radius)
Head SS Magnum 170cm.?121-71-107? ?? ?(21.5 mm sidecut) (13.5m radius)

Well, I am not a professional fashionista, just your bargain basement manhattanite.
SO, I must say that while lime green (the magnums) is just fine, adding orange is TOO much.
The royal blue jacket with black and white accents, worn with basic black pants will do FINE with the green skis, which I believe, have white and black accents.
All you need is a small green accent on your main outfit.
Hmmm, green gloves?
A green balaclava? or neck gaiter?
OR a matching GREEN HELMET?
Then you and Gary would truly be soul brothers.  >:D

Ok Jim....don't tread on my orange image...find your own in lime green....be all you can be...a force of one...yeah! You and the Hulk could have at least that in common....Kermit... watch your hide...Jim is on the prowl for green!

Go Green Jim...you'd be easy to find on the mountain!

Hey everybody.? I'm now looking for a pair of Tryrolia FreeFlex+ LD11 bindings in the lime green and white colors that go with the Head SuperShape Magnums.? Let me know if anyone sees sale prices at your local shops as they close out last years inventory.

The skis are way too pretty to just put my old black bindings on them, and the idea of putting RailFlex bindings on them has been proved too difficult (the hole patterns for the CP13 plate are not the same as the Railflex plate).?

Gary:

Sounds like you are suggesting that I get in contact with the Bronx Fashionista and have her start shopping.  ???  ???

I'll bet she loves shopping with someone elses money.   ;D  ;D  ;D

I don't have to send her one of my skis to coordinate with, do I?

Bronx Fashionista...sound s like a foot ailment a podiatrist must remedy.... ???

I think  "BSW"....Bronx Shopping Wizard....is more of a true reflection.

Now in an effort to bring in some reality Jim, I would recommend you head for your nearest Sherwin Williams Paint Store and pick up a series of green paint swatches. Bring them home and match them to your Magnums. Then forward the swatch to our resident BSW and she will take it from there.

I just love making things easier!  ;D

Excellent idea Oh Great Wise One.

All I have to do is go down to the marketing department and get their color wheel (or whatever it is they use) and give BSW the color number.

Awesome.  That takes care of the easy part.

Now, do you have any ideas on how I can take up a collection to pay for the BSW's shopping.  I'm fundless after buying skis?   ::)
