Who's the masked skier?
« on: October 01, 2009, 08:26:14 am »
OK, here we go again. The attached you-tube video is a HH promo. Take what you what from it in terms of the instructional value. I'm staying out of any discussion about technique, but, feel free to talk about flex patterns of the skis they are on.

But my real question is near the end, two of his students are featured skiing. My thinking the first is his star pupil, but, could the second be a poster on this forum?

Those videos were shot in March two seasons ago at my place in Montana. Max 501 was there, as were Harald and Diana. The skier in the Video is not me. He lives in London, and he does only ski 5-10 days per year. He made some awesome progress that week. We had absolutley amazing conditions the whole time. Fresh snow almost every day, and bluebird powder days when it wasn't snowing. It was an interesting week for me. My back went out a few days before they arrived. Foolisihly I skied the whole time. It actaully propelled my skiing because I learned to ski almost solely with my feet and ankles because I had to create all my edge angles with my feet because I could not counter balance at all (because of my back).

Every time I see video shot in Montana, I start to drool. It snowed there yesterday. We open up in early December!! I will head to Colorado in mid Novemeber because I need a fix bad!!

Awesome skiing....loved it....

I notice strong inside use of LTE, mega snow coming off the uphill edge, uphill ski, great body counter, pole plant...and use of all 4 edges.....NICE!

Great stuff....

I said foolishly because I could hardly walk at the end of the week and I literally could not put on or take off my pants from a standing position. It took several weeks for my back to recover. Would I do it again, OF COURSE!!

JB,
Any guesses as to the specifics of the 100+ waist, rockered pow ski that powers all those powder turns? >:D >:D >:D

Note to self: your being bad, very bad

I am pretty sure that Harald was skiing IM 78's in a 177 in the powder. On the groomed stuff, I am pretty sure he is on Head Super Shapes in a 170. He actually skied the pow in his SS's as well that trip and I guarentee that none of us (or anyone else watching) could tell the difference. Technique comes first. Equipment can only go so far in aiding poor technique and that is coming from a bona fide gear nut!!!

Ron:

I'm pretty sure it is your Hellbents that Gary just offered to let Living Proof demo.  I think that, in his official capacity as your ski purchasing agent, he is negotiating the sale of your Hellbents, knowing that you'll want to do that sometime this year?   >:D ;D

As stated before ( you can look it up) if I get a killer deal on the new Icelantic Rocker for next season, the HB's go. Until then, they are so much fun. Just a totally different way to surf pow.

Yes Rocker Ron....I have seen you cruise groomers and crush pow runs on those evil monstrous abominations to "normal" skis...

And you do it so well!   ;D

Oh my! HH and I have the same quiver! Quick, I need some hellbents to keep from being a HH clone.
