Hi Gary,

Well, for skis I'm a little up in the air.  I like the sounds of the Rossi Experience 98 as a crud and NE powder ski.  I skied Ed's Harts (Pulse 2) last winter and really loved the feel.  But, I'm always on a budget, so we'll see what I'm on this winter.  I'm sure that the Rossi Z9's are going in the ski sale this fall.  Not enough grip.  I did find a pair of FKS 155s this summer for $100 and know someone with a Rossi GS ski for cheap, so I'll probably make that my ice ski (unless they are better than the kid's in which case I'm sure they will get the good ones and I'll get what's left).

I tried a pair of the Avenger Ti 82's last spring.  They were confidence inspiring, very smooth feeling, handled speed really well, but were not really very exciting or playful.  But, I thought it was a great ski - just not quite right for me.

Liam - Will I keep the skis away from my kids?  Probably not - but it depends on what is in my quiver when snow flies.  I'll probably keep them away from Paul though - he is pretty much a destroya.  I pretty much cringe everytime I give him my credit card so he can demo a new pair of skis.  And I did get him a pair of Icelantic DaNollie's on ebay this summer (which he paid for) for $160 with bindings.  They are pretty much new.  Joyce is getting a new pair of Icelantic Oracles that I got new (undrilled) for $200.  Still looking for a binding for them.  Got any ideas at the shop?

John..hope you get a chance to demo the S3's Rossi...pretty darn versatile ski. I ski it in a 178 length and it carves, floats and just plain all around good ski...amazing edge grip.
AND the sacrifices we make for our kids...you should start a post on your physical specs, what you like to ski, where you like to ski, preferred turn shapes and let's see if we can all put our heads together and find you that perfect used ski.

I seem to always have probs finding a good mounting point for my bindings and have made a personal oath to use Marker Jester adjustable bindings....allowin g me 3cm forward or backwards. I have had great success with Marker bindings...love the feel and performance underfoot. I know they're pricey but the flexibility give me peace of mind.

If all goes well with the DPS112 I just purchased, I'll probably sell the S3's. I'll post up here if that's the case.

Let's see if we can collectively find beastieboy the perfect ski!  G

Green Trails,

Stick around here long enough and you'll be encouraged to put together a ski quiver to rival your bike quiver (though, that'd take some doing!).

Hi GreenTrails,

Sounds like a pretty busy mtb season for you.  Got a date for the grand opening yet?

I did buy a new mountain bike this summer to replace the 1991 Diamondback.  Wound up with an '07 Stumpjumper Pro FSR - Joyce found a guy selling it at a yardsale.  Looking forward to having you guys show me how to use it.

John

Yeah John.

Between trail building and riding, I've been busy most of the summer.  Grand Opening will probably be late spring/early summer, but we're doing build/ride/beer nights fridays at the Warfield House.  Meeting at 4 for building, 6 for riding or food/beer at the discretion of the crowd.

Liam - as to the quiver.  Still liking the Watea 84 as my daily driver and the Maestro for the deeps and crud days.  I do need a powerful carving ski though to supplement...

The more pressing need is a boot that doesn't cause irritation of the damn bunion sometime in late February making spring skiing painful.

Greentrails:

I remember Gary being potentially impressed by a new Fischer boot that is formed around your foot, rather than being ground and punched out after the fact.

Maybe this will trigger his memory.  Anybody else know anything about a fischer vacuum boot.

There is a substantial thread going on at Epic about this.
Philpug/Sierra Jim of starthaus are one of the vocal dealers on the site
giving their perspective.
No on-snow reports back yet.
Seems to be selling out fast.
Word of mouth is good, at least with in-store sensations.

I will wait for reviews when folks actually have some on snow time in them.

From what I have read, for me, they may not be "the one".
And from comments from Sierra Jim, perhaps they are not for those with the narrowest foot.
No real feedback about the woman specific model yet either.

Getting back on topic...

I believe that the biggest challenge in gaining new members on this site is just finding this place.  I was on my tablet the other day and didn't have a bookmark/favorite for the site.  I could not find this site to save my life.  Where is this place linked from?  It's not on the Real Skiers site as far as I can tell.  It doesn't come up on any of the popular search engines using search terms that I thought would work.

We need to work on getting the site more visible.  That's something that Epic has clearly done under the new ownership.  With the makeover also came some clear targeting of the search engines.  Just about any ski you search on will get you to Epic in the first 2 or 3 links.

I have had the same problem on devides where I don't have this bookmarked. If you don't know Realskiers.smfnew good luck finding it. Getting that fixed should be a priority.

HighAngles:  Good point.  I went in and set the following list as Meta tags, which should mean that the following words are exported with every page reference.  We'll see if that helps with finding it via Google. I believe that you can also buy higher placement in Google search results -- Epic may be doing that as they are a more commercial site.

Jim....just wanted to let you know...I did look into that new Fischer vacum packed boot. Probably would have bought one if our local shop had the $100,000 machine the shops need to get the boot shaped to your foot. I think our shop (according to the Fischer rep) will have this machine for next season.

In the meantime...I was VERY fortunate to find an outstanding off the shelf fit for my foot in the Lange RX pro130, just a wee tweak for the 6th toe.

Still...the Fischer concept intrigues me especially if you watch their video on how the boot process works....pretty darn cool.
So...whatever you end up doing....make sure that boot is spot on cause....

Epic doesn't buy their placement on search engines. The main driver of people to epicski is gear. Search most any top model from nearly any brand in the last 7 to 10 years and epicski has a thread on it, or one that mentions it. They are not ignorant of this either...
