yep Brad....you fit right in....

now just go rub your dimpled/pebbled self with Glens microfiber towel... >:D

Jim...I virtually have the same top skin.....(no one mess with that please)...so I can tell you waxing will protect that surface and make it look better than show room condition.

Just try it one time and let us know what you discover. Be gentle!

I agree with Brad.? ?;D? ;D

I can just visualize my wife coming down into the basement and shrieking "What in the hell are you doing" and me sheepishly replying that "the guys on the ski forum said it was good for my topskin.".? :-[? :-[? :-[

But Gary, I do very much like the SPA Wax idea or maybe fiberglass boat wax.? I always assumed that the top sheet was Gel Coat and not a paint like product but never knew for sure.? It seems like a thicker layer of "plastic" than Gel Coat, however.? Oh well, if I wanna be like Gary than I have to take his advice (and be gentle with the topskin).

Now I'm wondering what they heck they use to make the top coat.

My wife is going to do one of these when she sees me using the vehicle wax on the skis:? ::)

Glenn, just make sure you tell her you are doing her skis first, that it's an important part of summer maintenance, and that you are trying to save a little money by not buying actual ski wax.!!

What's the point?  Wax on....wax off. :P  However, you guys with your waxing poetic are totally out of my league. 8)  I throw in the proverbial microfiber towel. ::)

At least I don't have to worry about my wife finding me in the basement debasing myself for the sake of my skis......I don't have a basement. ;D

Ok Brad...please keep your "debasing" to yourself with or without a basement...you know...messy. Still, new gear does hold up better when protected from the harsh winter elements we love to play in. AND when I go to trade or sell the skis...they do hold their handsome image so much better.

I've always presumed the topskins were layers of a fiber product of some kind..fiberglass, Kevlar, or magical leprechaun dust.  ???

Jim, The Spa polish or I'm sure a marine boat wax would do just fine. So if you're out polishing the boat or spiffying up the hot tub, save a few "waxy ons and waxy offs" for your 2 Magnum friends. Oh yeah...tell the wife you're protecting your investment and their complimenting colors!

I think I'll clean the tops with a little Meguire's "Quick Detailer".

Ya know, before I hang those Kneissel Red Stars over the fireplace....okay.. .couch, I think I'll try some rubbing compound first and see if I can bring up those reds a bit.

You're fine. If you had said you used a clay bar, then applied the wax with an orbital buffer...I'd start to worry.? ;D

Another great detergent for gore-tex and DWR's is Graingers. http://www.grangersusa.com/ if you use the nikwax, make sure it's approved for the fabric on your clothes. some of it is a wax-based product and can block the pores in the fabric.

polishing topsheets: this is a bad subject, I don't touch mine, IMHo they are just fine without. if you want to recieve a lot of abuse, go over to Epic or TGR (better yet) and ask them for recomendations.... The only comment I have is that if you ski with gary, protection from his **** may be advised.....

Thanks for the link on the water proofing stuff for fabrics! I've been meaning to look that info up. Excellent timing.

Well I beg to differ with Ron....I believe that if the sharp edge of either ski should make its way across the top skin of the other....or a close buddy getting off the lift runs over your skis, the waxed surface seems to lesson the impact on the ski surface. Hey, just put one coat on and I'm sure you'll be able to see the difference in the colors plus the protection and value added longterm.

But hey, if you sell skis every 15 minutes, why bother.....well unless someone pees on them....but wait,,.....he won't even let me pay to take those pissed on skis off his hands.....no matter how many times I've offered.

Gary, do you really think wax lessens the impact of a shart edge? Are you sure its not just another ADD/OCD thing??????  ;D
