I will love them and squeeze them and
« on: April 18, 2008, 08:53:32 am »
Well....have you all taken the time to carefully put your skis to bed for the season? Your skis are great steads beneath your feet. You trust then to perform on demand, sliding, carving, dicing, and all things that bring those big smiles out.

Now...GIVE BACK? >:(? ?Don't let your faithful and trusty boards rust in the corner of the garage? :'(

Be nice and if I may:

If you don't work on your own skis, check to see if any ski shops are open in your area and have them do your edges nica nice....have them check to see if the bottoms are true and flat....base grind only if you spent mega days on rails in the terrain park or if your skis were rock magnets. Have them wax them with a nice cold weather wax (if possible). When you get them home, put some paste wax on the edges and just leave it there. You can also take a fine piece of sandpaper and get rid of all the nick's where the top skin meets the metal edges.? ?Treat yourself to a ski rack where you can hang them up in a fairly dry place. Then, visit them once a week and with a loving pat,.....tell them you think of them often.

If you're a tool head like me....get the edges done, make sure the bases are true, apply a nice coat of an all purpose wax...cause you'll wax them again with temperature specific wax in December, and leave the wax on..no scrapping or brushing. Now sand the tips tails and edges to get rid of nicks, a loving coat of Colinite Car Wax (or any car wax) or Spa Tub Gloss wax for the top skins and hang those babies up, and oh yeah, don't forget the visits, but don't let anyone hear or see you.

With your ski jacket and pants.....buy some Nik wash and follow the directions. Then rewash using the Nik Waterproofing. This does a great job and is better for the fabric from my experience.

Oh yeah...I hope when you put your boots away the liners were dry....just check...pull those bad boys out...make sure the inside shell is dry too. Re-install the liners and buckle the boots in the same position as when you are wearing them. Finally, place a wash cloth or clean rag in the top of each boot to keep out spiders, dust and kitty poo.

If you like waterproof ski gloves, before you put them away, buy some waterproof spray and give the gloves a spray.

yeah, yeah..... I? know....I'm over the top but my gear wears and performs well.? ;D

Best,
Gary

And one more thing.?

Close the bindings as if the boots were in the bindings.? This takes the compression load off of the heel piece springs caused by the heel release lever being in the down (to release the boot) position.? ?

Excellent idea.  Also I told him it didn't have to be this weekend.  Can't be more fair than that!  On a side note, I told him he could use the Fischer Fires until I got back up.

THAT is the kinda guy I am.

Ask him to ski them at +15 as well as at 0 and tell you if he feels a difference.
Pour on some BS while you do it to make him appreciated how "ski knowledgeable" you've become.

I always make note of my DIN settings and then turn the bindings down to the lowest setting to take the tension off the springs for the summer...

I truly appreciate how you think Jim.? And I'm not waiting till near the start of the ski season, I'm telling him now so he can ponder this over the summer as well.? He has already begun the summerization process on our my skis.

I think I'll be doing this over the weekend. What do you guys recomend for waxing the top sheets? I detail our cars, so I've got all sorts of different vehicle waxes/poly's to choose from. I'd imagine if it's safe for an automotive finish...it's safe for the tops of skis?

I don't do anything to the topsheets.

Pretty sure that Gary (and Ron) highly recommend just PEE'ing on them.   ;D   ;D  ;D   :D

LMAO! I almost did that on Sunday. I was too busy to hit the lodge. My skis have a yellow topsheet...no one would have noticed if my aim was off.  :D

Now Jim....peeing on skis is just a lazy way of staying on the snow...you know...It's too freakn' good to go in and the snows too deep to spread your legs apart without falling over.....well....in to yellow nasty snow....where some other yahoo has just done the same thing.

Now as for those top skins...I use a good car wax, like a wax good for fiberglass cars or just any plain ole good car wax. My secret polish which I put over the car wax is Spa Wax....no Lynn....not for hair removal....it's designed to bring a high gloss to hot tubs.

There,...now go rub some on....and Jim....you know your Head Mag's are looking pretty spiffy weet right now. Why not protect the little fellas and spread some love all over their topsides?? :-\?

Best,
Gary

The Magnums have a dimpled/pebbled topsheet (like a basketball, not a golf ball).  Not sure I'm smart enough to wax a 'non-smooth' surface.
